Doctor Tree

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Are you in charge of running a medical office, like a doctor’s office or a hospital? If you are, you have likely had your establishment reviewed by state officials before, but have you ever done your own medical doctor review? If you haven’t, you may want to think about doing so. In fact, you may want to think about having these reviews on a regular basis. When it comes to medical doctor review, there are many individuals, possibly just like you, who wonder the importance of them. After all, most medical establishments are reviewed annual by state and federal governments. Yes, these reviews are important, but many times inspectors and reviewers are only looking to make sure that you meet all requirements, even if it is only the bare minimum. If you are a medical director, you likely already know that the bare minimum isn’t always enough. That is why you may want to take your medical reviews a step further; after all don’t your patients deserve it? If you are interested in doing your own medial doctor review, which you should be, as there are a number of benefits to doing so, you will need to decide how you would like the reviews to be done. For instance, you have the option of an internal doctor review or an external medical doctor review. External medical doctor reviews are reviews that are often completed by outside companies; ones that are likely to be unbiased and more focused on the truth. Internal medical doctor reviews are reviews that are done from the inside, like by your own employees. Although both medical doctor review approaches are possible, many prefer the unbiasness of an external review.

Doctor-Ratings Methodologies
Each establishment uses its own methodology with regard to offering doctor ratings. Now more than ever, companies design their own back-end proprietary software applications to better serve their customers. From search-engine technologies to doctor-ratings technologies, the message is clear: It has only begun.

Where Can I Find Doctor Ratings?
Some companies allow you to search their free doctor-ratings databases. These databases generally offer limited ratings, however, and usually are compiled from patients’ ratings. The good news about these services is that the information is mostly free; on the other hand, you get what you pay for.

Hormones And Acne

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Hormonal acne isn’t just the plague of adolescents, it affects adults as well. A host of research studies have been done on the subject and it’s been found that this type of acne is triggered by the production of androgens.

Androgens are male hormones, but they are present in both sexes. Some of the studies around hormones and acne have discovered that the production of androgens ignites the oil producing sebaceous glands and causes them to enlarge. If you are one of the unfortunate individuals that have a problematic link between hormones and acne, you have over producing sebaceous glands. Timing as at play here as well, since the production of androgens is generally at its peak between the ages of 11 and 14 years of age, right at the time young teenagers are going through the phase of puberty. Women may also have a problem with acne due to hormonal changes in their bodies, such as during their menstrual cycle, pregnancy, peri-menopuase, menopause, ovarian disease or an endocrine imbalance.

Acne studies further show that androgen kindled sebaceous glands also produce more oil or sebum, thereby encouraging an outbreak of pimples. Sebum is naturally occurring oil on the skin that builds up in the hair follicles as it carries along the hair shaft and blends bacteria and skin cells. During this natural process, dead skin cells and pushed to the surface of the skin and expelled. But if the glands are producing an excess of oil or sebum, the chances of clogged pores and/or follicles which can in turn results in acne pimples.
