Acne Treatment
Acne Treatment Methods
When you have an acne problem, you normally head to your dermatologist, or the doctor who treats all sorts of skin problems.
What kind of treatment for acne/pimples will you need? Definitely you’ll need to heal existing lesions and stop new ones from forming, without causing scars. You’ll also need to minimize the psychological stress and embarrassment caused by Acne. The doctor will prescribe drugs according to how bad your acne is, one or a combination of over-the-counter (OTC) drugs and prescription drugs topical (applied to the skin) or systemic (taken by mouth).
Treatment for Blackheads, Whiteheads and Mild Inflammatory Acne
If your acne is mild, the doctor will prescribe an OTC or prescription topical acne medication. Some of the most common are Benzoyl peroxide, resorci
nol, salicylic acid, and sulfur.
Doctors usually recommend an OTC or prescription topical acne medication for people with mild signs of acne. Topical medicine is applied directly to the acne lesions or to the entire area of affected skin.
Benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, salicylic acid, and sulfur are the most common topical OTC medicines used to treat acne. Each works a little differently.
In some patients, OTC acne medicines may cause side effects such as skin irritation, burning, or redness. Some people find that the side effects lessen or go away with continued use of the medicine. Severe or prolonged side effects should be reported to the doctor.
OTC topical acne medicines are somewhat effective in treating acne when used regularly. Patients must keep in min
d that it can take 8 weeks or more before they notice their skin looks and feels better.
You’ll come across a lot of anti-acne cleansers that claim to be medicated. You need something that can clear up existing blemishes and prevent new ones from forming. Acnezine and Proativ are few such treatment options available to treat acne outbreaks. Learn about Hair loss Remedy for Women and Treatment for boil on skin here.
