Benefits of Raw Honey
Thursday, February 11th, 2010Honey is one of the worlds most renowned substances. It is mentioned in numerous religious texts, including the Holy Quran, as a healing substance and really is an under appreciated natural liquid. I want to comment about a couple of things in this piece - things a bit beyond what a median person would consider questioning. One question : Ishoney any different, and any better, than sugar? Second : Are there differing kinds of this golden substance, some being healthier than others?
Honey is made up of fructrose and sucrose, at approximately 75%, and then numerous other sugars. The remainder of it is other sugars, some protein, and minerals. Average superstore variety is filtered, and many of the beneficial substances have been removed. What’s reduces down to is that both of my questions will lead to the same answer. Some honey, namely the raw variety, trumps others. This is where the health claims of honey are being made. Raw honey , therefore , is the type that we need to look at when we ask if this natural sweetener is dissimilar than sugar.
Are we talking about yet another sweetener, maybe even like corn syrup? Absolutely not. It is known to have anti-allergic, anti inflammatory, and expectorant properties. It has been used to treat diverse stomach ailments, ulcers, and has been used as an anti-bacterial agent to treat the injuries of soldiers.
In 1989, the book of the Royal Society of medication contained an editorial which stated that “The therapeutic potential of uncontaminated, purehoney is far underutilized.” The varsity of Waikato’s Peter Molan writes, that the efficacy of honey as a healing agent has been unquestionably demonstrated in the literature reviewed in Part one of this article broadcast in 1999, but the biochemical rationalization of these effects is more hypothetical.
